Expectorant, antispasmodic, lowers blood pressure.
Effects on the organism:
The Amerindians used its leaves to treat fevers and mucous membrane problems (abundant secretions and throat irritants).
Astringent, expectorant and antispasmodic, it treats throat irritations, bronchitis, asthma and cough.
Since it is rich in tanins, it treats diarrhea and dysentery. It would be a sedative and lower blood pressure.
Principal constituents: resins, tanins, ericinol.
