Juniperus virginiana L.

Properties and usage:

It treats the bronchial tubes, fevers, head aches, cough and rheumatic aches. It is a diuretic and treats cystitis and enuresis.

Effects on the organism:

The Amerindians used white cedar to treat fever, head aches, cough and rheumatic aches. It was used for centuries for bronchitis, rheumatism and cancer of the uterus, but also to combat the side effects of the smallpox vaccine.

White cedar is recommended for internal as well as external usage such as for warts and polyps. Because it has anti-viral properties, it would contribute also in the treatment of tumors, particularly those in the uterus. Recommended against abundant secretions, it heals acute bronchitis. It is also prescribed for late menstruation, but not to be used in case of abundant menstrual flow.

It is a diuretic and treats cystitis and enuresis (bed urination) with children. As an anti-imflammatory, analgesic and relaxant, the extract from this plant can be applied on the joints and on sore muscles.

Caution: must be used only under medical control (essential oil). Not recommended during pregnancy or breast feeding. Maximum one cup per day can be taken.

Principal constituents: thuyones, waxes, mucilage, tanins and flavonoids.
