Properties and usage:

As a compress, it relieves conjuctivitis and swelling of the the eye lids, fights infections and allergies of the eyes.

Effects on the organism:

Eyebright shrinks the mucous membrane of the eye and relieves conjuctivitis and swelling of the eye lids. Due to its beneficial effect on the eyes / nose / throat, it is often prescribed for infections and allergies of the eyes, ears, sinus and nasal passages. Very astringent, eyebright has an effect on abundant secretions, but must be used with care in case of congestion, which it can aggravate.

It has been used in opthalmology since the 16th century as a medicinal plant.

Principal constituents: glucosites, iridoids, tanins, phenolic acids and essential oil.
